Taichung Port, one of four international commercial ports in Taiwan, there are 46 wharfs, 17 specialized zones and 3 free trade port zones. Until now, 45 businesses have made investment there with a total capital of NTD 337.2 billion.

Taichung Port characterized by broad lands and convenient transportation is fit for BOT or BOO project and development of free trade port zone. Lately, the port has harvested a lot because the actions were actively taken to attract investments. As for the project about promotion of investment from private sectors, within 4 years (between 2003 and 2006), Chinfong Group, Dragon Steel Co., Topfood Industry Co., Chinese Petroleum Corp., Taiwan Fertilizer Co., China Hi-Ment Corp., and NEW CHIEN TE HANG Co. all have signed the letters of interest and will make investments with a capital of NTD 110 billion. This portion will lead to elevation of cargo volume up to 14.7 million metric tons and provision of more than 1000 job opportunities and growth of local economies in the near future. As for the promotion of free trade port zone, Taichung Free Trade Port Zone launched its operations on October 31st, 2005. Four enterprises like Yi-zhou Coast Corp. immediately started their operations in the free trade port zone in 2005 and so did six other enterprises like Volkswagen Warehousing Corp. in 2006, hence amounting to a total of 10 enterprises. As a result, Taichung Free Trade Port Zone has successfully achieved the goal set by the Executive Yuan. As for the operation performance of free trade port zone, the trade value and volume of cargo (including exports and imports) amounted to NTD 8.2 billion and 0.67 million metric tons respectively in 2006. Both achievements were the best among 5 domestic Free Port Trade Zones including 4 seaport zones£¨Keelung, Taipei, Taichung and Kaohsiung£© and 1 airport zone£¨Taoyuan£©. Accordingly, the total volume of cargo handled in 2006 set a record high point of 90.32 million metric tons, surpassing 90 million metric tons for the first time and is optimistically expected to reach the milestone of 100 million metric tons after those BOT/BOO projects start to operate in Taichung Port.

At present, there are lands of 544 ha. and 185 ha. left for rent respectively in the specialized zone and free trade port zone. We sincerely welcome the investments and establishment of businesses to Taichung Port, not only by all sectors but Taiwan businessmen in Mainland China as well.
