Despite unfinished facilities, China Postal Airlines' new hub at Nanjing Lukou Airport has commenced operations, Xinhua reports.
Construction of new taxiways and parking aprons for postal aircrafts as well as the mail handling facility is still underway. Work is expected to end by August 2008.
After the facility is fully completed, China Postal Airlines will operate a fleet of 20 aircraft and handle 40,000 tons of express packages and mail every year from the new base. The report noted that the facility would be able to unload, sort, check and complete customs procedures for express mail within four hours.
China Postal Airlines has a fleet of 12 aircraft. It has been offering direct services to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenyang, Tianjin, Xian, Chengdu, Fuzhou, Osaka and Seoul as well as next-day and next-morning delivery to more than 200 cities.
