Around 8,000 employees comprising ground handling staff of Air India called off their strike at 11.35 p.m. on Tuesday. The strike was called off as the airline management assured the staff its demands on Performance Linked Incentive will be resolved within a month’s time and issues with House Rent Allowance and City Compensatory Allowance revision will also be taken up with the Government.

Mr. George Abraham, the General Secretary of the striking union — Aviation Industry Employees Guild — said “Management gave us in writing that the new Productivity Linked Incentives (PLI) recommended by the high powered committee will be introduced within one month.”

On other wage arrears, he said, “We have been told the Government has to take a stand on house rent and city compensatory allowances, so management will impress upon it to meet our demands.”

Mr. Abraham also mentioned that while the PLI for Indian Airlines’ employees was revised twice, no such revision was carried out for Air India’s employees.
