AIR T Inc has announced the creation of a wholly owned subsidiary, Global Aviation Services (GAS) as part of its ground support equipment expansion.
The company's ground support equipment division manufactures and services aviation and other specialised military and industrial equipment, and is one of the largest providers of de-icing equipment in the world.
Now as GAS, the firm is closing a three-year maintenance services contract with Northwest Airlines to provide ground support equipment and facility maintenance at a number of locations, including Memphis.
Said Air T chairman Walter Clark: "We look at this expansion as the logical next step in moving our company forward. We are adding a line of business that complements both of our existing lines of business."
The two businesses are Air T, which provides overnight airfreight service to the express delivery industry, and its subsidiaries, which manufactures, sell and service aircraft and special purpose industrial equipment.
Air T, of Maiden, North Carolina, is one of the largest, small-aircraft air cargo operators in the United States. Air T's Mountain Air Cargo (MAC) and CSA Air subsidiaries operate a fleet of single and twin-engine turbo-prop aircraft nightly in the eastern half of the United States, Puerto Rico and the Caribbean Islands.
