CHONGQING Airport handled 1,731 tons of imported cargo in the third quarter of this year, a surge of 260 per cent compared to the same period the year before. The value of this cargo increased 23.7 per cent to US$106 million, Xinhua reported.
General imports soared 380 per cent to 1,269 tons, taking up 73 per cent of the airport's import value. The value of these imports doubled over the same period a year ago to $80 million.
Imports with the highest value were electrical equipment, precision instruments, automobile and spare parts in that order. The value of imported electrical equipment rose 72 per cent to $28.8 million. Precision instrument value went 8 per cent up to $22 million while the value of car parts soared 1,183 per cent to $13.9 million.
