KUEHNE + NAGEL says it has opened a new facility at Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport dedicated to providing logistics services for perishable airfreight and to niche industries such as ship spares, aviation, oil and energy.

The new location is intended to complement Kuehne + Nagel's existing airfreight operations in Nieuw Vennep, near Schiphol airport, which handles regular airfreight shipments, as well as its Aalsmeer branch, which focuses on the worldwide transport of flowers and bulbs.

Located on the premises of Schiphol Airport, the new building features 3,500 square metres of logistics space and 800 square metres of office space. Logistics services offered include cross docking, picking, packing, qualitychecking and inventory management, a company statement said.

Guus van Leeuwen, director for airfreight at Kuehne + Nagel in the Netherlands, said: "The opening of this facility is proof of our strong development in the Dutch air cargo market. By bringing together our offering for selected niche markets under one roof we will be able to benefit from synergies and furtherimprove the service."
