HANGZHOU Xiaoshan International Airport plans to add six services in the near future, said Xiaoshan Airport chairman Sheng Jifang.
The new services will include the Hangzhou-Kuala Lumpur-Gold Coast service to be launched by Air Asia in January, the Hangzhou-Vancouver service with stopovers in Hong Kong and London jointly operated by Hong Kong Express Airways and Oasis Hong Kong Airlines.
There is also the Hangzhou-Hong Kong-Sydney service by Hong Kong Express Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways as well as the Hangzhou-Europe/US chartered cargo service by 3E Airlines, said the Logistics Week report.
Meanwhile, two new Hangzhou-based airlines, including Changlong International Cargo Airlines and Qiantang Airlines are under construction and will bring more new services to Xiaoshan Airport, the report said.
Korean Air is now operating an international freighter service in Xiaoshan Airport, the report added. In order to expand airport capacity, Xiaoshan Airport recently started work on the second phase expansion project.
The CNY10 billion (US$1.35 billion) project, to be completed in 2011, is expected to boost the cargo mail throughput, passenger volume and flight frequency of Xiaoshan Airport to be double of the current size by the year 2015, the report said.
Construction of the project includes a new 3,600 metres long, 60 metres wide runway, 67 jet berths and car parking lots, the report added.
