HAIKOU Meilan International Airport handled record cargo mail volume in 2007 with the figure surpassing the 100,000-tonne mark by mid-December, Xinhua reported.
Haikou airport has been experiencing double-digit growth since the beginning of 2007 and there are three major reasons to strong increase, the report said.
Haikou-based airlines boosted cargo transitting business by bringing in more transshipments and average monthly cargo transitting volume came to 300 tons, the report said.
The airport also organised 10 charter freighter flights from southeast Asia to mainland China cities via Haikou by making good use of the flight right opening policy, the report said.
Cargo mail volume handled by non-based airlines in Haikou airport also rose rapidly at more than 20 per cent. The volume contributed by 15 major airfreight forwarders accounted for 60 per cent of volume, the report added.
