GERMANY's Lufthansa Cargo has increased the capacity of its freighter service to the Brazilian metropolis of Curitiba from its hub in Frankfurt from July 16.
The carrier said that consequently it has added to its existing Saturday flight - launched in October 2007 - a new flight on Wednesdays, departing 22.40 hours and raising its flight frequency to twice weekly.
The freighter connections to Curitiba are run jointly by Lufthansa Cargo and its subsidiary Lufthansa Cargo Charter, which charters the airfreight capacity from a World Airways-operated Boeing 747-400 freighter.
"We are delighted to be offering customers in cooperation with Lufthansa Cargo Charter a regular service to Curitiba and, simultaneously, further expanding our strong position in South America," said Andreas Otto, Lufthansa Cargo board member for product and sales.
The Saturday service from Frankfurt flies via Sao Paulo/Viracopos (VCP) and is marketed by Lufthansa Cargo, while Lufthansa Cargo Charter is responsible for the route ex South America. The additional routing to Curitiba on Wednesdays is marketed entirely by Lufthansa Cargo, the company release said.
Lufthansa Cargo additionally serves the South American market with its own freighter flights to Buenos Aires and Sao Paulo/Viracopos as well as with belly capacities on Lufthansa passenger aircraft on flights to Sao Paulo/Guarulhos, Caracas and Buenos Aires, it added.
