The Port of Felixstowe, the largest U.K. container handling complex, is now operational with new empty container handling equipment from Kalmar Industries of Sweden.
The new fleet comprises 12 empty container handlers, four toplift machines and one reachstacker. Two more empty container handlers are also due for delivery at the beginning of September.
The vehicles are equipped with Volvo TAD760VE engines and are able to stack five containers high, with a total weight lift capacity of nine tons.
These features will allow for faster turnaround times and greater maneuverability of containers around the port, said Hutchison Ports (UK) Ltd., owners of the Port of Felixstowe, in a statement.
