Kolkata (Calcutta) Port container traffic up 13pc in August
THE Kolkata Port Trust (KoPT) has reported a record 13 per cent container volume increase to 41,379 TEU for August over the 36,634 TEU throughput achieved in the same period last year, reports SteelGuru, India's industry news portal outside Delhi.
KoPT chairman AK Chanda said the Kolkata Dock System handled 28,128 TEU in August this year compared to 25,813 TEU in February this year and 27,562 TEU in August last year. The corresponding figures for Haldia dock were 13,252 TEU, 14,407 TEU and 9,072 TEU respectively.
In August, coking coal throughput at Haldia stood at 771,695 tonnes, up 52 per cent year on year, against the highest monthly throughput for August 2007, when the dock handled 507,000 tonnes.
