Sinotrans mulls new focus on short-sea shipping and logistics

Sinotrans president Zhang Jianwei says he is considering switching his company's focus to short-sea shipping and domestic trade, which would involve a redeployment of capacity.

Mr Zhang told Logistics Week that the group aims to become one of the top three Intra-Asia carriers in the next five years.

He said Sinotrans will concentrate on the Asian container shipping market in future. However, he said the company is not quitting the long-haul shipping sector although it is not planning to deploy additional capacity on these routes. Instead, the group will seek partners to co-operate on long-haul lines.

Sinotrans intends to make shipping and logistics its two core business in future. The group is developing into an international third party logistics provider and become the largest logistics firm on the mainland, he said.
