Newmont Mining Corp has awarded Cat Logistics a ten-year contract to provide warehousing and inventory management services, records accuracy, and transportation management services.
Cat Logistics will operate a new 162,000 sq.ft logistics centre in Elko, Nevada that will serve as a master distribution centre supporting Newmont’s mining operations in north-central Nevada, which include four mine sites and five processing plants.
The facility will also incorporate the parts operations of local Caterpillar dealer, Cashman.
Construction of the facility has just begun, and it is scheduled to be fully operational by the end of the first quarter 2008.
In a combined effort with Newmont’s maintenance team, Cat Logistics’ integrated logistics solution will aid Newmont to efficiently recover, crush, convey and process precious metals.
According to Brant Hinze, Newmont Mining’s vice president of North American operations, the agreement will streamline Newmont’s supply chain process, resulting in better equipment availability, increased employee productivity and lower inventory carrying costs.
