PORT of Shanghai's Yangshan Phase 2 terminal project has passed China state government's acceptance inspection, reports Xinhua.
Yangshan phase 2 project has been on an eight-month trial after it was completed in December 2006. It has a quay length of 1,400 metres, a land area of 888,300 square metres and four 70,000-tonne container berths, which can handle 2.1 million TEU annually. It is also equipped with 12 container cranes, 10 of which are state-of-the-art cranes that can lift two FEU at a time.
The phase 1 and 2 have a total quay length of 3,000 metres and nine berths and are operated by Shanghai International Port Group's subsidiary, the Shengdong International Container Terminal Co., Ltd.
From January to August, phase 1 and phase 2 terminal together handled lifted 3.85 million TEU with throughput expected to reach 5.6 million TEU by 2008.
