DAITO Corporation, a member of the "K" Line, has installed a new environmentally-friendly hybrid transfer crane at "K" Line's container terminal in Yokohama.
The crane manufactured by TCM Corporation features a system that reduces fuel consumption by generating electricity when containers are moving downwards.
A statement from the company said this is the first time a Japanese container terminal has installed this type of one-over-five-high hybrid transfer crane.
The new crane reduces oil consumption 40-50 per cent, cuts emissions of carbon dioxide 40-50 per cent and produces less noise than standard cranes owing to its advanced engine type.
In October and November, Daito Corporation will also install another two hybrid cranes at Ohi Terminal. One will be manufactured by TCM Corporation while the other will be made by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding Co.
