A SUBSIDIARY of International Container Terminal Services (ICTSI), Contecon Guayaquil SA (CGSA), operator of the container and multipurpose terminals at Ecuador's Port of Guayaquil, has recently taken delivery of four empty container handlers and 18 tractors and 10 reachstackers. Delivery of three more reachstackers is scheduled for early next year.

The equipment was ordered from Kalmar Industries by global terminal operator ICTSI, a statement from Kalmar Industries said.

Gaston Chipy, Latin American area sales director, said: "Because ICTSI is so familiar with Kalmar's equipment that Kalmar products were a natural choice."

Kalmar has already delivered equipment to a number of ICTSI's facilities around the world, including its Baltic Container Terminal in Gydnia, Poland, and its flagship facility in Manila.

"For the CGSA order, time was of the essence. We needed to get high-quality equipment onsite and into operation as soon as possible. The fact that Kalmar could guarantee a fast order-to-delivery turnaround time was paramount," said CGSA engineering chief Gustavo Cercos.

ICTSI was awarded the 20-year operating concession for the container and multi purpose terminals in Guayaquil by Autoridad Portuario de Guayaquil (APG) in March. The Guayaquil facility handles 65 per cent of Ecuador's container, general and bulk cargo, the company release added.
