MEMBER container shipping lines participating for now in the Far Eastern Freight Conference (FEFC) carried 5.6 per cent more containers in the westbound Asia to Europe/Mediterranean trade in April.
The total April westbound container volume for FEFC carriers amounted to 813,098 TEU, up from 770,315 TEU for the same month a year earlier.
A breakdown of the results by region shows that Far East to North Europe volume was up 5 per cent to 520,258 TEU, while the westbound trade to Mediterranean ports grew by 6.5 per cent year on year to 292,840 TEU, reports the American Shipper.
In the first four months of the year, FEFC members' westbound volume was up 10 per cent to 3.18 million TEU.
FEFC member lines are: ANL Container Lines, APL, CMA CGM, CSAV Norasia, Egyptian International Shipping Co., Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, "K" Line, Maersk Line, MISC, MOL, MSC, NYK, OOCL, Safmarine, Yangming and Zim.
