Last Mile Logistics Group, Inc. (OTCBB: LMLG), a leading provider of last mile delivery and related services in the Mid-Atlantic region, was recently cited as one of the top logistics providers in the furniture industry in an article in Inbound Logistics magazine. The article listed 12 companies as top furniture logistics providers in the U.S., with LMLG's operating company Chesapeake Logistics included in the list. Regina Flood, CEO of LMLG, stated, "We are delighted to be recognized by one of the leading logistics publications as a top logistics provider."
The article focuses on supply chain challenges for the furniture industry, and refers to solutions provided by companies such as LMLG to reduce fuel costs, improve inventory turnover and minimize merchandise damage. "With continued pressure in today's economic environment to reduce supply chain costs to compete, companies have used outsourcing to specialized providers like us to better control these costs while at the same time improving the ability to respond quickly to customer expectations," said Flood.
Flood shared that one reason for the demand for last mile market providers is the need for truckload and LTL carriers to focus on better utilization of their resources. "For heavier freight, most of the larger carriers want to keep their trucks moving, avoid residential neighborhoods, and prevent their drivers from having to handle freight. Outsourcing to last mile providers like us helps those carriers achieve these objectives, while still satisfying local service requirements."
According to Beacon Equity Research, despite slowed GDP growth in the U.S. economy in 2008, experts expect the third party logistics (3PL) services market will grow nearly 8 percent this year in the U.S. 3PL growth rates have averaged nearly 13 percent annually since 1996. A slower U.S. economy may actually benefit industry participants by encouraging more retailers, manufacturers and distributors to reduce costs by outsourcing more of their supply chain logistics.
