TNT EXPRESS has announced the launch of its new international and domestic road hub warehouse in Bangkok to handle heavy freight and build on the soaring demand for freight express between southeast Asia, China and Europe.

Spanning 3,000-square metres, the S$530,000 (US$390,000) facility is located in the Lamlukka district in the Thai capital and employs 150 full-time staff who man the facility 24/7, said a company statement.

"The completion of the Thailand road hub enhances our Asia road network which covers 125 cities in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and China," said TNT regional manager Onno Boots.

"As the mid-point along the Asia road network, Thailand is the ideal location to carry out the transloading of trucks. Its strategic location also allows for seamless integration between our air and road network," he said.

The Thailand road hub will enhance connectivity offered by TNT's air and road networks. Goods passing through Thailand will be consolidated and processed at the facility before making their way to TNT's southeast Asian hub in Singapore via the Asia road network for subsequent airlift to China and Europe using TNT's Boeing 747-400 ER Freighter that flies between Singapore, Shanghai, China and Liege, Belgium three times a week.

TNT Thailand has 26 depots handling 40 tonnes or 4,500 consignments every day. With the new hub in Thailand, TNT has the capacity to handle three times that, and is well-placed to support the growing volumes of goods that flow through Thailand.

Amsterdam-listed TNT employs 161,500 in 200 countries and has EUR11 billion in annual revenue.
