DESPITE Canada's Imperial Air Transport's previous bid to bring business to New Brunswick province being rejected by Miramichi's Airport Commission, the team persists, reports New Brunswick's Miramichi Leader newspaper.
The air cargo company's representatives spoke to city council asking for support to make the city a hub for international cargo planes and to generate economy into the area overdue for regeneration.
Marlene Molnar of IAT said: "The reason that we are here is to ask you for support for Imperial Air Transport, an international air cargo business that we would like to open at Miramichi International Airport. Excuse me, that was a slip - at Miramichi Airport."
Ms Molnar feels that such a move would put the city on the worldwide map and with an addition of 10,000 feet to the runway would make it the "longest runway in Atlantic Canada". She urged them to reconsider on the grounds that cargo companies are now looking to smaller facilities for grounding rather than large and congested airports.
