In September a new rail shuttle will come into operation between the Port of Gothenburg and Värnamo/ Älmhult in southern Sweden.

Älmhult is where the multinational company IKEA was founded and where it still operates, for example, a large central distribution centre.

The new rail shuttle will be operated by SC T Rail, a subsidiary of SCT Transport, one of the largest container transport agents in Sweden.

SCT Transport has for the past year operated two other rail shuttles between the Port of Gothenburg and the Swedish towns of Örebro and Motala.

Transporting goods by rail is cost effective and has less negative impact on the environment. Our customers are therefore demanding rail transport more and more, says Hans Gutsch, president of SC T Rail.

The Port of Gothenburg now has 24 shuttles within the RailPort system to as many towns in Sweden. There is considerable demand for further shuttles. Some 40 percent of all containers to or from the Port are now transported by rail.
