A FedEx Freight truck terminal in Fontana, Calif., now receives 54 percent of its energy needs from solar power thanks to a new rooftop solar array installed by BP Solar.The solar panels can produce 370,551 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, and reduce carbon emissions, FedEx said.
A second FedEx Freight facility in Whittier, Calif., has been using solar power for the past year.
FedEx Express also operates a solar-powered hub in Oakland and said it will be adding solar to its Cologne, Germany, hub when it opens in 2010.
The company's renewable energy initiative also includes the use of hybrid trucks.
