Rancho Dominguez, Calif.-based Jones Act freight forwarder DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express said Monday it has opened a full service freight handling facility in Kailua-Kona on the Big Island of Hawaii.

The 15,000-square-foot mixed office and warehouse facility, built to DHX specifications, almost doubles the firm's previous freight handling capacity on the island.

Located on the eastern side of the Big Island, the facility features seven bays capable of handling 14 trucks simultaneously, dock levelers, a security system and IT system allowing track and trace of all cargo within the DHX network, including the Southern California headquarters and facilities on Oahu and Maui.

The new Kona facility is wholly owned and operated by DHX-Dependable Hawaiian Express.

DHX is one of the largest freight forwarders and logistics providers servicing the Hawaiian Islands with offices in Southern California, Chicago, New York, Oakland, Portland, Seattle, Guam, as well as Hawaiian offices in Honolulu on Oahu, Kahului on Maui and Kona on the Big Island.
