Zhaoyin port area sees TEU volumes up 47%

The Zhaoyin port area within Xiamen port handled 4.6 million tons of cargo in the first half of this year, an increase of 35.6 per cent, which represents the highest growth rate among all eight port areas in Xiamen.

This comes despite the development of Xiamen port being restricted by a small hinterland and limited cargo sources. Yet the flourishing coastal industries near the Zhaoyin port area are starting to boost the growth of the port's export trade.

Export cargo volumes at the Zhaoyin port area increased by 68.07 per cent to 734,300 tons in the first half of this year, while container volumes were up 47.03 per cent to 117,200 TEU, Xinhua reports.

Coastal industries are expected to continue to drive the development of the Zhaoyin port area, with Noell Crane Systems (China) Limited and Zhangzhou CIMC Container Co., contributing most of the growth in export cargo volumes by dispatching more port equipment.

The Zhaoyin port area also saw strong growth in the volumes of pitch, mechanical equipment, ore and building materials, steel and wood shipments handled in the first half of this year, the report added.
