GUANGDONG province's Zhaoqing city is aiming to achieve an annual container throughput of one million TEU by 2011.
Officials at the port expect annual volume growth rates of 25 per cent, reports Xinhua.
The river port city also hopes to reduce logistics costs in the region by two to three percentage points and to double the percentage of third-party logistics companies that service the area over the next few years.
The Xijiang River, one of the Pear River's main tributaries, runs through Zhaoqing, connecting cities in the southwest China with those in the Pearl River Delta.
