The port of Marseille is set to double the annual volume of bananas it handles from 25,000 to 55,000 tonnes thanks to new traffic from the French West Indies.
On 30 June, banana producers in Guadeloupe and Martinique ended shipments to northern France and committed to CMA CGM's new South American and Caribbean service into Marseille.
The fruit will be handled by LV Fruit at the port's Mourepiane container terminal.
Marseille announced a seven percent increase in first-half east-west container volumes compared with the first six months of last year.
