ZHANGJIAGANG customs has started co-operating with Shanghai customs to offer a one-stop clearance system for shippers who need to transship their cargo via the port of Shanghai, said Xinhua.
These shippers now only have to declare their cargo at the Zhangjiagang Free Trade Zone customs before their cargoes are transported by freight forwarders to the port of Shanghai and shipped abroad, and needn't go to Shanghai to clear customs again.
An exporter quoted by the report said the co-operation has simplified clearance procedures and helped to reduce cost.
As there is no direct shipping from Zhangjiagang, 70 per cent of the local container cargo has to be transshipped via Shanghai, the report added.
