THE Port of Tianjin recently started to expand its 6,382-metre long navigation channel by widening its south bank by 104 metres to allow inbound and outbound ships to sail in and out at the same time.

The project will be finished by March next year, Xinhua reports. The report also said that before the expansion project, the channel dimensions also limited ship size. As more new and large berths have commenced operation, the channel could no longer meet the needs of more and bigger ships.
