NYK recently held its Anti-Stowaway Campaign 2007/2008 and a terminal security enhancement meeting at the Shenzhen's Shekou Container Terminal.

Representatives from the three major terminals in Shenzhen, as well as from Xiamen Port (Group), Xiamen International Container Terminals, Nansha Terminals One and Two, and Grand Alliance members NYK, OOCL, Hapag Lloyd and Malaysian International Shipping Corporation attended the meeting.

The event focussed on the security measures that have lately been adopted by US coastal ports and in Europe. In response, the SCT, YICT, CCT terminals, and the Xiamen and Nansha terminals have introduced anti-stowaway procedures, devices and security measures at their gatehouses, yards and on the quayside.

The representatives discussed ways to prevent stowaways ahead of the peak shipping season. NYK emphasized the need for a layered security approach in order to avoid any security breaches.
