THE Port of Vancouver in Washington state is bursting at the seams with cargo, according to statistics through August.
The Pacific Northwest port is on pace to handle more than 5.5 million tons of cargo this year, a 46 per cent jump since 2005, and over the first eight months of the year total cargo tonnage was up 21.2 per cent over 2006.
The port also reported that vessel calls are up 11.9 per cent this year over the same eight-month period in 2006. Port executive director Larry Paulson said: "It's been a challenging year for the Port of Vancouver, and I wanted to give you an idea of some good things that are happening."
