Marsk Line making savings on fuel costs by sailing slower.

Marsk Line has introduced several initiatives to cut back on its fuel costs as a result of high fuel prices and will make considerable savings already this year.

According to M?rsk Line Chief Operation Officer Morten Engelstoft, the company has both introduced a new fuel tariff in commercial operations as well as launching several other initiatives.

We typically sail at 18 knots rather than the 21-22 knots we previously ran at. This gives considerable savings as fuel consumption is not proportional to speed. This also enables us to reduce our enironmental effect quite considerably, he says.

On routes between Asia and Europe, slower speeds mean that it now takes 22 days to sail from Hong Kong to Rotterdam compared to 20 days previously.
