PORT PROFILE

Location
  Latitude 18o 3.5' North and Longitude 121o 34.5' East on the northernmost part of the island of Luzon. It is situated near the mouth of Cagayan River at coordinates bounded by Babuyan Channel on the north, and the towns of Buguey on its east, Ballesteros on its west and Camalaniugan on its south in the province of Cagayan.

Aparri is 192 nautical miles from San Fernando.  Sea distance to Manila is 376 nautical miles.
 
Port Limits
  The port is bounded in the north by the Babuyan Channel, in the south by Appagonan River, in the east by Barangay San Antonio and in the west by Cagayan River.
 
Land Access
  Aparri is just about 580 kilometers north of Manila with approximately 12 hours travel by land. Various public utility transport companies are available with usual departure schedules at 3:00 p.m., 4:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m., such as EMC Transport, Co., Victory Liner Florida Lines; Baliwag Bus Lines and Viva Bus Lines.
 
PORT FACILITIES 
 
Berthing Facilities
  A 345 m. long concrete wharf on fill in line with a 380m. long concrete jetty with depth ranging from 3 to 4m alongside.  Both berths are heavily silted and require dredging.  Loading and unloading of cargoes are normally done at the anchorage, using several motor boats and open lighters through Appagonan River to the center of the town of Aparri.  Logs are wet towed alongside vessels from numerous log ponds along Cagayan River.
 
Draft
  Controlling draft alongside the Aparri Marginal wharf is 0.5 to 1.5 meters.
 
Anchorage & Fairways
  From the wharf to the anchorage area is about 1.5 miles fronting the north China sea. It can accommodate several vessels of more than 1,000.00 GRT at a time with a control draft of about 10 meters.
 
PORT SERVICES
 
Cargo Handling
  North Luzon Port Services, Inc.
 
Shipping Agents
  Only tramping vessels, mostly motor tanker vessel discharging oil petroleum products for the oil industry.
 
Tug Assistance
  No big tugs available. However, Northern Luzon Port Services, Inc. provides several small tugs ranging from 150 to 275 hp.
 
Communication Services
  PLDT, RCPI-Bayan Tel, DIGITEL, PT&T and government-run Bureau of Telecommunications offer direct national and international long distance telephone, telegraph and fax services.
 
Bunkering
  Diesel oil is available in very limited quantity from local suppliers and delivered on board in drums of 210 liters capacity per drum.  Contact Caltex Philippines, Petrophil Corp. or Pilipinas Shell.
 
Pilotage
  Compulsory.  A 24-hour advance notice addressed to Aparri Harbor Pilots, Aparri, Cagayan is required.
 
Water Taxi
  LC Danao Water Taxi services with three (3) units of motorized bancas and life jackets.
 
Trucking
  Private trucking services available in the locality.
 
Chandling
  Limited provisions only.
 
Towage
  No big tugs available.  However, Northern Luzon Port Services, Inc. provides several small tugs ranging from 150 to 275 hp.
 
Medical
  Aparri District Hospital, about 5 kilometers from town proper and Lyceum of Aparri Hospital, just 3 kilometers from the Aparri Marginal Wharf.
 
Airport
  Nearest airport is in Tuguegarao about 110 kilometers and two (2) hours drive by land from Aparri for domestic flights only to Manila, Laoag and Basco, Batanes.
