This week's ICAO Assembly to emphasise air cargo liberalisation
DELEGATES to the 6th International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Assembly in Montreal this week, September 18-28, are expected to demand greater liberalisation of the air cargo market.
This year Robert Aaronson from the Airports Council International (ACI), Jack Boisen from The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA), and Issa Baluch from the International Federation of Freight Forwarders' Associations (FIATA) will deliver presentations to the ICAO.
ACI, FIATA and TIACA strongly believe that the global air cargo market should be unrestricted anywhere in the world, according to a report by New York-based Air Cargo News.
IACO, a United Nations body, is expected to hear speeches highlighting the view that the air cargo industry is a dynamic force in the global economy because of its role in the global supply chain. About 30 to 40 per cent of world trade by value moves by air.
