The first Singapore Airlines A380 has been officially added to the Singapore aircraft register on Oct. 13.
The Certificates of Registration and Airworthiness were received from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) in Toulouse, representing the final milestone ahead of Oct. 15’s delivery ceremony.
The CAAS required a rigorous process of certification before adding the aircraft to the register. The process was completed and the Certificates of Registration and Airworthiness provided to Singapore Airlines in Toulouse, France, ahead of the aircraft’s delivery.
The rigorous preparation necessary to achieve CAAS certification was only possible because of the successful collaboration of Singapore Airlines, Airbus and other major vendors, in conjunction with teams from CAAS as well as other aviation regulators.
As part of the preparation for entry into commercial airline service, five developmental A380 aircraft have visited over 45 airports around the world on route-proving flights. These flights stress-test the aircraft’s systems and assess airport readiness.
The tests contributed to one of the most extensive airworthiness certification processes ever, to satisfy world aviation regulators that the A380 is ready for passenger operations.
Singapore Airlines has firm orders for 19 A380s, with a further six options.
The first Airbus A380 - registered 9V-SKA - will be delivered to Singapore Airlines in Toulouse on Oct. 15. The aircraft will be flown to its new home, at Singapore’s Changi Airport - on Oct. 17.
And then, aviation history will be made when the A380 takes off from Singapore to Sydney on Oct. 25, returning the following day, on the first commercial flight of the new superjumbo.
Singapore Airlines then begins scheduled services with the A380 between Singapore and Sydney on Oct. 28.
