SINGAPORE's Changi Airport has been named the Best Airport-Asia for the 22nd year in a row.
The honour was announced at the 22nd Asian Freight and Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA) held in the Lion City earlier this week. Changi beat finalists Hong Kong International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport to clinch the award.
The winner was selected through an annual reader survey conducted by Cargonews Asia magazine. The votes were cast by decision makers who operate the logistics and cargo supply chains in the Asia Pacific region, a statement from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) said.
The AFSCA awards recognise winners for demonstrating leadership as well as consistency in service quality, innovation, customer relationship management and reliability.
"Winning the award is in recognition of CAAS's efforts in providing a conducive framework and operating environment for our air cargo business partners. CAAS will continue to closely support the air cargo and air logistics sectors by ensuring smooth and efficient operations at the Changi Airfreight Centre and the Airport Logistics Park of Singapore," said a statement from the airport authority.
The first three months of 2008 saw Changi Airport handle a total of 466,566 tonnes of air cargo, representing an increase of four per cent over the same period last year. In 2007 Changi handled 1.89 million tonnes of airfreight.
