Authorities in Guangxi province said they will speed up the development of the logistics industry by strengthening the "three growth engines" of ports, coastal industries and border trade.
As a gateway from China to Asean, Guangxi has been identified as having unique geographical advantages and conditions to foster the expansion of the logistics sector in the region.
To improve the competitiveness of its ports, Guangxi established the Guangxi Beibu Bay International Port (Group) at the beginning of the year to integrate port resources in Beibu Bay and turn the port cluster into a gateway for southwest China trade.
In May this year, work started on building nine 50,000 tonne deep-water berths in Beibu Bay to lay the foundations for the formation of a regional shipping hub with the capacity to handle over 100 million tons of cargo annually.
Currently the four coastal port cities in Guangxi, Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangcheng, have developed large coastal industrial parks, offering broad platforms for the development of the modern logistics industry, the report said.
Overland customs checkpoints in Guangxi, including Pingxiang and Dongxing, are also said to play an important role in boosting growth of the sector.
