China, Russia, South Korea and Japan will jointly build transport route covering the Rim of the Sea of Japan in 2007. When completed, it will surely play an important part in the economic development of Northeast Asia.

The total length of the new route will be approximately 800 sea miles, from Huichun of China’s Jilin Province to Nigata, Japan. It will also be the 2nd sea route out of Northeast China.

The four countries mentioned above will jointly found a new company to manage and operate the route. China and Japan will be responsible for supply of goods, Russia will be in charge of the transportation and storage of goods in its territory while ships will be offered by South Korea.

Now the China-South Korea part of the route is in trial operation, with 400,000 passengers and 500,000-plus cargos having been successfully shipped, bringing in a trade value of US$200 thousand.

The new route will greatly shorten the voyage from China to South Korea, Japan and North America.
