It is learned from the Container Committee of the China Ports Association that an industrial standard for container terminals, currently being drafted, is likely to be published soon.
Chen Changgeng, Secretary of the Container Committee, said lack of an uniform standard and relaxed control on terminal construction has led to the birth of a large number of projects of low standard, local standard and sometimes only company standard. Now the CPA framework, soon to be finished, includes more than 40 sub-standards for terminal entrance, van pool, heavy box yard, machinery repair/maintenance workshops, terminals, CFS stations and office rooms, and will service, when formally adopted, as a necessary condition for the establishment of any new container terminal companies.
All terminals are divided into four classes in the industrial standard, and the lowest shall be able to handle 500 TEU at a time.
