GLOBAL express and logistics company DHL says its DHL Exel Supply Chain business unit has begun operating the new purpose-built distribution centre for Unilever near Surabaya in east Java, Indonesia.
This comes after Unilever earlier this year extended its contract with DHL Exel Supply Chain to act as its operations partner and run the facility.
Rahim Tahir, managing director, Indonesia, DHL Exel Supply Chain, said in a company release: "Over the past several years the DHL and Unilever teams have built a strong collaborative working foundation to achieve organisational business goals and drive supply chain performance for Unilever."
The 8,750-square-metre "synchronised dispatch facility" is located on 11,000 square metres within the Unilever factory compound. The new facility accommodates more than 17,000 pallet storage locations, to allow for growth for Unilever's product storage requirements through to 2010, a DHL statement said.
