CSX Intermodal, a unit of the CSX Corporation, is preparing to open a new Intermodal Container Transfer Facility (ICTF) in Buffalo, New York, to replace its existing facility, which is scheduled to stop operations on November 18.
"The terminal will feature more capacity, improved technology and additional service lanes compared with the current ICTF," CSXI was cited saying in a report by US-based ProgressiveRailroading.com.
Aside from continuing to serve Chicago, the report said CSXI intends to provide a new intermodal box service between New York City and Buffalo ICTF via the South Kearny, New Jersey, terminal. This service is designed to enable domestic and international freight forwarders to transport their containers between Buffalo and Toronto six days a week.
"The new terminal is a result of public-private partnerships between the State of New York and CSX Corp. to expand transportation services into the region," a CSXI statement said.
