Forward Air buys pool distribution company

Forward Air Corp. said it has completed the acquisition of Spartanburg, S.C.-based Service Express, a provider of dedicated distribution and truck consolidation services in the mid-Atlantic and southeastern United States.

Service Express had 2007 sales of $39 million.

Forward Air, Greenville, Tenn., is a provider of time-definite trucking services that competes with air cargo. Service Express will become part of its Forward Air Solutions subsidiary, which also provides pool distribution services. Forward Air Solutions now has 20 terminals for combining less-than-truckload shipments into truckloads.
