Oslo Vognselskap, the public transport rolling stock company of the Norwegian capital, has ordered another 20 metro trains from Siemens Mobility. A contract was signed at the InnoTrans trade fair on September 24, 2008 in Berlin. The order is worth about EUR 110 million. The contract calls for delivery to be completed by 2010.
This order marks yet another option exercised under the terms of the 2003 order that Oslo Sporveier had originally placed with Siemens for 33 three-car metro trains with the option of ordering up to 85 additional metro trains. One option was taken up for a second batch of 30 metro trains in September 2005.
Special features of the vehicles delivered to Oslo include a substantially reduced energy consumption compared to Oslo’s old metro trains and a very high recycling rate of almost 95%. The three cars making up each 54-meter-long train are interconnected by gangways and can accommodate a total of 500 passengers. As before , the vehicles for this new order are to be built in the Vienna plant of Siemens Mobility.
