CARGO volume through the port of Yingkou, the second largest sea port in northeast China, has for the first time surpassed 100 million tons, Xinhua reported.
Gao Baoyu, president of Yingkou Port Group, said the port is to raise its capacity to five million TEU or 200 million tons by 2010, and is aiming to achieve a throughput of 2 million TEU.
During the five-year period from 2006 to 2010, the port of Yingkou will invest CNY14 billion (US$9.87 billion) on port expansion projects, including five container terminals, five bulk terminals and in a navigational channel deepening project.
