AMERICA's largest container port, Los Angeles, celebrated its 100th anniversary as a commercial harbour on December 9. Evergreen was the co-sponsor of the event.
The Evergreen Symphony Orchestra was invited to the event and played Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture. The event also featured a fireworks display at the Evergreen Terminal.
The Port of Los Angeles was founded in 1907 and currently handles 169 million tons a year generating revenue of US$370 million. Evergreen has a leased 195-acre terminal at the port with a quay length of 3,200 feet, which handles 1.4 million TEU annually.
The orchestra also played at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro the next day at the request of the Grand Vision Foundation. All ticket proceeds will be donated to the foundation for renovation of the theatre.
