SINGAPORE is predicting container trade to increase to almost double its current level of 27 million TEU by 2013 according to The Straits Times.
Its five-year plan will cost an estimated US$1.83 billion to add 16 berths to the Pasir Panjang terminal.
In the first two years it is expected to double its berths to 26 and to aim to will handle 14 million containers overall by 2013.
The Port of Singapore operates four of the five container terminals with a forecasted 27 million TEU to be handled in 2008. PSA was not available for comment on the terminal's expansion plans.
