NINGBO-ZHOUSHAN port handled 8.60 million TEU in the first 11 months of 2007, a strong growth of 32.1 per cent year on year, Xinhua reported.

Ningbo-Zhoushan port was on the heels of Qingdao port, which handled 8.65 million TEU, but ahead of Guangzhou port that handled 8.39 million TEU during the 11 months, the report said.

The three ports are the second-tier container ports in China right behind the front-tier harbours of Shanghai and Shenzhen.

Statistics from Ningbo port authority show cargo volume of Ningbo-Zhoushan port increased 14 per cent to 437.2 million tons, ranking second in China after Shanghai's 448.6 million tons.

In November alone, Ningbo-Zhoushan port handled 42.33 million tons, surpassing Shanghai's 1.03 million tons.
