Profile Established in 1899, Port of Dalian is one of the largest international trading ports of North China. With deep water and broad space, it is a fine natural port free of ice and silt, and is easily accessible by railways and highways linking the port with its hinterland. 85% of the foreign trade cargoes of Northeast China are handled at Port of Dalian. Facing the challenges and opportunities of the new century, Port of Dalian puts forward its new strategy as building a large modern comprehensive international port with multi-functions. Right now, it is intensively constructing some new facilities including the Dayao Bay New Port 2nd Phase Project, a 300,000 dwt Crude Oil Terminal and a 250,000 dwt Mineral Ore Terminal. Introduction Port of Dalian was founded in 1899.It is located at the central point of West Pacific, center of the arising Northeast Asian economic circle, the gateway for this region to the Pacific and the rest of the world. With broad space and deep water, free of ice and silt, the Port has superior natural conditions, the most convenient seaport for the transshipment of cargoes between Far East, South Asia, North America and Europe. It covers a water area of 346 km2 and a land area of nearly 15 km2.There are 160 km of specialized railway lines,300,000 m2 of warehouses,1.8million km2 of stacking yards and over 1,000 units of different types of loading and discharging machinery and equipment. It operates nearly 80 specialized modern berths for containers, crude oil, product oils, grains, coal, bulk minerals, chemical products and passenger/cargo roll/roll transportation, among which 40 berths are over 10,000 dwt. Port of Dalian has the Nation's largest 300,000 dwt crude oil terminal and 300,000 dwt ore terminal. Dayao Bay Port is one of the four international deep-water transshipment ports designated by the Central Government as key projects. Dalian Port Corporation Limited has established trading and shipping ties with more than 300 ports in 160 countries and regions of the world. With 68 international and domestic container shipping routes, Dalian is China's second largest container transshipment port, the largest and fastest growing port for sea-rail through transportation, the largest seaport for passengers and one of the world ports handling more than 100 million tons of cargoes annually. Wind North and northwest winds are the strongest and most frequent ones whole year round. South winds prevail in spring and summer while north and northwest winds in winter. C. Precipitation The annual average is 600mm.Rain centralizes in July, August and September, taking up about two-third of the total amount of the year. D. Fog Foggy days increase from the start of spring and disappear after September. Fog occurs frequently in the mornings. Long-lasting foggy weather in July may slightly affect the in-and-out of vessels. E. Ice Freezing period of the port area is between early January and March, lasting about 60 days. The port may be partially frozen with ice of 5 to 20 mm thick in a certain year, without influence on navigation and mooring. HYDROLOGY The tide is semi-diurnal style. The maximum tide level reaches 4.6m and the minimum is 0.66m while he average is 2.14m.The average sea level is 1.63. FAIRWAY The fairway to Dagang Teminal is silt-bottomed, designed with a depth of -10m,a width of 270m and a length of 2.500m.Vessels of 10m draft may enter and leave at any time. The fairway to Xianglujiao Terminal is -8m in depth and 100m in width. The fairway to Ganjingzi Terminal is silt-bottomed, designed with a depth of -9m. The fairway to New Harbor crude oil terminal is a natural one with a depth of -17.5m and a width of 300m. The fairway to Dayao Bay Terminal is a natural one with a depth of -10.7m and a width of 210m. The fairway to Dalian Bay Terminal is a natural one with a depth of -9.5m and a width of 100m. The fairway to Siergou Terminal Jetty | is -9.5m in depth and120m in width. The fairway to Siergou Terminal jetty || is -9.5m in depth and 120m in width. BREAKWATER There are nine breakwaters and the total length is 7,000m. The Dagang Terminal is surrounded by breakwaters on the east, west and north sides with the East Entrance 360m wide. Foreign vessels enter and leave the port mainly through the East Entrance. |
