AP MOLLER is billing for storage at Lagos, Nigeria, container terminal in an attempt to keep turnover high and overall cost low, according to the local Apapa Daily Sun newspaper.

AP Moller's CEO Michael Hansen said: "Our objective is not to store any container, our terminal is not for storage purposes. Our business is to move containers through the terminal as fast as possible."

Mr Hansen's aim is to stop using inland container depots, but believes this is a long way off with half of AP Moller's containers being forced to use bonded terminals due to space constraints at ports. "I think those bonded warehouses should start thinking of other ways of doing business," he said.
